YUKON, Okla. (KFOR) — Severe weather season is almost here, and many Oklahomans are preparing early by getting shelters installed in their house. Hill Construction Solutions has installed eight above ground shelters so far this year.
“Tornados are very random acts and you never know where they’re gonna go, so be prepared,” said William Veitch’s, who got a tornado shelter installed.
William Veitch’s home is the ninth home Hill Construction Solutions has done this year.
Veitch has had in-ground shelters in the past but purposefully built this house to include room for one in his garage. It’s also the first shelter he’s had above ground.
“As you get older, going up and down the stairs, trying to get a 65 pound dog to go down with you, that’s a real treat! So above ground shelter for me, that’s the way to go,” said Veitch.
Hill Construction Solutions installs them in Oklahoma, but the shelter itself is made in Alabama with materials rated to withstand an F5 tornado.
